Welcome to the library, we hope you find this section helpful.
Library membership
To join the library you will need to register your ID card. To do this you can either present your ID card at the helpdesk or complete our online registration.
You will then be able to:
- Borrow books, journals, DVDs, up to 4 items

- Register for an Athens account to access e-books and databases from home
- Renew and reserve items either online (ask for a PIN number) or with staff
- Renew items 3 times unless someone else has reserved them
PCs/Laptops
We have a number of PCs/laptops available for use within the Library/IT centre. These have connection to the internet, printing and your network accounts. The initial booking is for one hour, with a possible ½ hour extension in 15 minute slots with no return for 15 minutes to make sure you take a break. If you’d like to use a computer please take your ID card to library staff. In the IT Centre we have a 1 person, 1 PC, one chair rule - if you need to work in small groups please use the laptops in the Library, where there’s more room.

Network accounts
Before you can use College computer you will need to activate your network account and get a password. To do this,
To do this, swipe your ID card through one of the Net mania boxes located in reception or in the library. If you forget your password, you can reset it by swiping your ID card through the machine again. (NB passwords are case sensitive). If you need help please ask a member of library staff.
Printers
We have printers in the library and the IT centre; the computers automatically link to the printer in the room. You’ll be given a print allowance of £12.50 at the start of your course. Once this has been used you will need to pay for any further printing – A4 black and white costs 5p per side, colour 25p. Printer credits can be purchased from the Net mania boxes.
GuestNet
If you would like access to the internet from your own internet enabled equipment such as laptop or smartphone please ask staff for a
GuestNet account. GuestNet doesn’t give you access to the main college network so you won’t be able to print or access your network drive, but you will be able to access the internet. If you use your own equipment and wish to connect to mains electricity we need to run a PAT safety test on your computer. Contact library staff to arrange a PAT test, otherwise please use battery power.
A few rules
The LRC, the IT Centre and Library, is a professional learning environment so:
- Eating is not allowed, drinking from sports bottles is OK.
- Mobile phones need to be on silent and calls must be taken outside.
- Noise levels will be monitored and staff may ask you to keep your voices down.
- To use IT facilities or borrow resources you must register your ID card with the library.
- You must have your ID card with you as we cannot issue items, including PCs, without it.
- If you wish to use your own laptop with a power lead it must be PAT tested and display a sticker
Overdue items
If items are overdue it can affect access to our resources including computers:
- If items are overdue you will be charged 10p per item per day.
- Reminders are sent to your College email account.
- Fines of £1.00 or over mean you cannot use LRC IT facilities – this includes computers

- If an invoice is issued for non-return of items your print budget will be zeroed until the matter is resolved. You can, however, purchase print copies via the Net Mania boxes located in the library and reception
